haven't posted in forever as i was dealing with Marine Ich. After 11 weeks and a couple lost fish due to carpet surfing everything is back up and looking good.

Dhelseth updated Acan Brain Coral
2014-04-14 12:52:45 -0600
In the reef aquarium, Acanthastrea are incredibly hardy and fast growing, tolerating a wide variety of conditions including both low and moderate lighting and moderate water currents. They make ideal candidates for fragging at home since they have very distinct corallites (less risk of collateral damage!), amazing adaptability to lighting conditions, and rapid growth rates. Though tolerant of a wide range of aquarium conditions, the undemanding Acan Brain Coral will thrive in established reef aquariums with stable conditions. Be aware that Acanthastrea are voracious nocturnal predators and competitively extrude mesenterial filaments and digest organisms within reach. Great care must be taken in determining the placement and distance between Acan Brain Coral colonies. Target feed minced meaty foods and zooplankton for best growth and frag recovery time. The use of a quality protein skimmer helps maintain water quality and combat the effects of heavy feeding.

What is your plan for this big boy, livestock wise, etc?

Well first it will house the population of my 60 gallon cube (2 Ocellaris Clowns, Linear Blenny, Yellow Coris Wrasse, and Bengai Cardinal) and several duncan, and zoas, a cristata, mushrooms and a few SPS pieces. When I have successfully moved all that over, i'll probably give it a good 6 months before i do anything else. This tank is a lot to work with.

btw, your tank looks great. I can see why you would want to upgrade, looks like there isn't much room for improvement at this point. If you ever frag that birds nest let me know, would love to grab a piece.

Yep. I acquired tons or rock when I purchased the tank and merged my 40b to the 65.
I am almost certain I will be 'fragging' the birds nest when I re-scape. If I want to or not!

Hey, thanks for the offer, i actually have a lot more rock waiting in a quarantine tank from the old system. I'll have to get an updated photo up. I'll let you know once all that is put to use.
