2 years have passed. A neck injury kept me from maintaining the tank like it needed. All in all it is not too bad. Hair algae got way out of control. I'm slowly bringing that back into line. Not as bad as it could have been, for not doing any water changes for the past year. I think that is a testament to the Apex automation + the auto-doser.

Sadly, I lost several inhabitants, but oddly the corals seemed to have thrived. My losses were fish and snails mostly. I've cranked up the Mg to around 1600, I'm going to keep it there until the algae is gone.

I've had thoughts of restarting the tank, but I keep thinking about all the $$$ and time that has went into it. Tough decision.

After practically tearing down the tank to find a hitchhiker crab, I used the effort to aquascape a bit more. I separated much of the rock to make more caves and open areas between the rocks and to get some of the rock off the back wall. It is kind of hard to see in the picture. but there are many more ledges and places that fish will like. That is WHEN I get some fish.

My water params are exceptional after running the RODI system after 2 months. You don't have to believe me. Compare all other full tank pictures to this one. The cloudiness is gone and all the corals are very happy and healthy. If you don't have one you should get one. It makes a world of difference in the health of your environment.

New aquascape looks good. Better to get it right now rather than later.

Thanks. I hated to move stuff around after the corals started getting really happy, but when I found that crab, I knew the crab had to go. That critter knew how to avoid me...so I removed his ability to hide. I like this aquascape much better now so it is all good. ;-)

The new skimmer pump got in and it's been running about a week. The water cleared up, so I thought it about time to add a couple clowns and I saw a RTBA thatI just had to have. Simply beautiful.

Like the new additions especially the RTBA. I love the look of those in tanks. @Zukari on here has one in his tank & it has split like crazy. :)

Thanks. It's funny you mention Zukari. I was just looking at his tank yesterday. The rbta is off exploring the tank. Definitely not where I wanted him, but they seem to have a mind of their own and are known to move around to find their spot.

Added about 200 dwarf cerith snails. I found yet another hitchhiker crab. This one foiled my feeble attempt to simply net him. I ended up rearranging the tank again trying to find that crab...I didn't find the crab, but the tank design looks way better.

I also added about 10 large nassasrius snails, I lost 2 overnight. One didn't look so hot from shipping. But The upside is I have 8 good ones.

Since adding the rock from the gulf, I am seeing a much wider variety of life in the tank. It is quite fun watching the tank become alive. I've found some stromatella snails coming out the rock and some small bristle worms.

I found the goby's dried husk between the wall and salt container. HE jumped...

I added 2 peppermint shrimp, and then found the first one alive and well. I guess he wanted company. The overnight I lost one. So I have a count of 2. They evidently ate the glass anemone, but not the two aptasia. I'm thinking about trying a copperband butterfly fish.

I added some rocks I picked up in Miami into my tank that I pulled out of a shallow pool there and it's really added a ton of biodiversity in my tank including a few smaller snails that reproduce in the tank which makes me happy.

Here is a few pictures to update the status of the tank. I've now had it 3 months. I think the progress is good. I've lost a spotted goby( he jumped out) and I think I may have lost a peppermint shrimp. I've not seen it for two weeks.

It is looking great. Sorry to hear about your goby. I know a couple of folks on here have built suicide prevention screens DIY so maybe they can offer some ideas for you.

Thanks. I have suicide netting, but I'd just brought him home 2 weeks ago and I had poked a couple holes in the bag before going to the movies. Wen I came back, I couldn't find it. I guess the holes were too big and he got out. On a different note, the granddaughter spied the peppermint shrimp yesterday.

I've been mulling the idea of making an algal turf scrubber. I've been seeing them in action and I have to say, I'm impressed.

I've got one in my sump. There are pretty easy to make.

but the real question is how do they perform over time and can they go a few days without attention.

At one point mine probably required cleaning every couple of weeks but the growth rate has declined dramatically over the past few months. I'm guessing algae growing in the rest of the sump is out competing it.
