kla updated Algae Blenny
2014-03-22 12:31:32 -0600
Affectionately known as the **Lawnmower Blenny**, _**Salarias fasciatus**_ is a popular marine aquarium fish species in Australasia. Named for its propensity to consume algae growth from rocks and glass, despite this it is principally a detritivore, with plant material making up only 15% of its diet. The Lawnmower Blenny is generally regarded as compatible with most other marine fish species and as a group with other lawnmower Blennies. The Lawnmower blenny has the capability to blend iN with its surroundings to hide itself from predators. It stays mostly on the ocean or aquarium floor or on any rock or corals. Source: wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salarias_fasciatus The aptly named _Lawnmower Blenny_ will keep your green algae well trimmed and presentable. It requires a mature tank.

Thanks. The fish is a Six Line Wrasse. Coral on the left are some zoanthids that are closed up. The ones on the right are green star polyps.

Got it as a tiny half inch frag about a year ago. It was white with slight hint of green. Didn't think it would make it either. It grew really slow since it was so small but the growth rate seems to be picking up.

kla updated Spongodes
2013-12-03 17:15:26 -0700
Spongodes is a Montipora sp. with an interesting growth pattern and coloration. It creates a substantial encrusting plate formation with thick fingers projecting upwards from the plates. The plates and fingers have a very attractive combination of contrasting brown and green colors. Under intense lighting, the new growth on this coral turns vibrant purple. Benefit from feedings of marine snow, phytoplankton, or food for filter feeders.

Looks like the convicts have started breeding. All the large fish, even the Pacu which is much larger than them, were confined to a small part of the tank because they were defending an entire half of the tank. I moved the fry into their corner so they aren't having to defend so much territory.
