kla updated Young Blushing Finger Leather Coral
2013-01-10 17:14:21 -0800
There is variation among _Cladiella sp._ which is also known as Colt Coral. It's very aggressive and should be placed somewhere with a lot of free space around it. Don't put it close to _Sarcophyton_ and _Sinularia_ as it can kill them.

kla updated Yellow Watchman Goby
2012-04-10 07:46:35 -0700
A hardy goby that is easy to take care of. It is notable for forming a symbiotic relationship with the Tiger Pistol Shrimp http://aquarist.me/fishes/tiger-pistol-shrimp. The goby stands guard while the shrimp burrows a cave in the sand which the two share. **_Cryptocentrus cinctus_** (common names include **Yellow Watchman Goby**,**Yellow Shrimp or Prawn Goby,** **Midas Goby**, **Watchman Gold**, and **Yellow Spotted Blenny**) is a goby from the Western Pacific. This species is also known as Iga tubumata by the inhabitants of the Nggela Islands. In the Marine Aquarium hobby they are often partnered with Tiger pistol shrimp, _Alpheus bellulus_. kla updated Fire & Ice (Zoanthid)
2013-01-05 08:31:54 -0800
A very popular and spectacularly colored zoanthid. They are characterized by their bright orange/brown tentacles and blue mouths. This variety is very easy to care for and will grow readily in most reef tank environments thus making it an excellent choice for beginners. It is semi-aggressive with the ability to sting so placement in your tank is important.

kla posted New Feature: Aquarium Logs on kla
2012-12-28 13:51:59 -0800

We recently added a new feature to the site to help you track your tank's parameters. You'll be able to record and track all of your parameters and view how they've changed over time in a nice graph. The system will visually alert you when any of your parameters fall outside of the ranges that have been defined for each. For example, if your Calcium is too low it will be displayed in red and you'll see it outside of the safe blue area on the graph. Finally, you'll be able to add "events" (basically notes) to keep track of maintenance performed, equipment changes, dosing or really anything that you don't want to spam your main tank profile page with.

To get started just go to your tank's page and click on the link near the top right.

kla updated Demasoni Cichlid
2012-12-25 21:58:04 -0800
The Demasoni Cichlid or Dwarf Mbuna is a relatively rare cichlid, which originates from a rocky point called Pombo Rocks, within the waters of Lake Malawi located in Tanzania, Africa. The male of this species has dark blue or black vertical stripes with alternating lighter stripes of light blue to white. The male Demasoni Cichlid also displays the typical spots on the anal fin, and is considerably larger than the female. The female of this species is not as brilliantly colored, and lacks the spots on the anal fin. Source: [wikipedia] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudotropheus_demasoni) Due to the aggressiveness of Pseudotropheus demasoni, a species tank is the best option. Try to keep the number of males down compared to the females and stock quite heavily compared to other set ups.

kla updated Blue Electric Cichlid
2012-12-25 19:49:14 -0800
The Blue Johannii Cichlid is extremely aggressive. This cichlid should be kept with other aggressive fish. The species is highly sexually dimorphic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_dimorphism "sexually dimorphic". Females and juveniles are yellow whereas males are blue and black. This sexual dimorphism of M. Johannii makes it easy to differentiate males M. Johannii from M. Cyaneorhabdos since both sexes have the same colours in the latter.

kla updated Branching Frogspawn Coral
2012-12-20 18:54:32 -0800
The Frogspawn Coral is a large polyp stony coral (LPS) often referred to as the Wall, Octopus, Grape, or Honey Coral. Its polyps remain visible throughout both the day and night, resembling a mass of fish eggs or frog eggs, hence one of its common names Frogspawn. Its coloration is green or brown to tan in color. With its appearance and coloration it would make a nice addition to any reef aquarium. During the evenings, its sweeper tentacles can extend up to six inches beyond its base into the reef aquarium surroundings. It will sting other neighboring corals in the reef aquarium, therefore, it is best to leave plenty of room between itself and other types of corals. It is moderately difficult to maintain, but it is a popular coral that will thrive under the proper conditions. It will need to have moderate to heavy lighting combined with moderate water movement within the aquarium. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
