klm updated Hard Tube Coco Worm
2013-06-04 09:49:31 -0400
The Hard Tube Coco Worm, also known as the Hard Tube Feather Duster, Protula Tubeworm, or Hard Tubeworm, has a crown that can be white, yellow, orange, pink, or red. . The Hard Tube Coco Worm secretes a calcareous tube, approximately 1/2 inch in diameter and 5-8 inches long, to house its vulnerable worm body. When disturbed, it can quickly retract its crown and close its operculum to shut the top of its tube. It usually anchors its tube in a crevice of the rocky reef or in the gravel along current-swept reef slopes. It uses the radioles to filter out floating plankton. The aquarium for the Hard Tube Coco Worm should be well-established and contain a rock and gravel substrate. The Hard Tube Coco Worm requires calcium and the proper alkalinity to grow. It is extremely intolerant of poor water quality and copper-based medications. In the aquarium it is difficult to maintain, and will need supplements of phytoplankton and liquid organic foods.

Had a algae explosion last weekend, got some crabs snails and Emerald Crab tank looks better but tests are still up and down. Might add a cleaner shrimp this weekend not sure yet. Tank it self looks good most of algae is gone atleast the ugly green stuff is, but there is a purple algae growing now. Hopefully in final stages of cycling and ready to start the refugium that is in the back also this weekend have to see what the LFS has to say.

Nothing set in stone yet. I plan to add some open water swimmer to fill the space to the right (trying to avoid clowns, but might be my best option). I plan to keep the sandbed fairly open, but may add something on the right rock which can tolerate the undertow generated by my VorTech's positioning. Aside from that, I'm mostly looking at Inverts like Sexy Shrimp and Pom Poms. Definitely planning a maxi mini Anem or two, and SPS on the left rock structure.

The tank will be fairly empty for the next 4 months though as I will be spending a fair amount of time away from home this summer. When I come back stocking will resume.

Thanks! The key to it was the LR. I have a very good LFS and they gave the wife and I 'pick of the litter' so to speak on some awesome cured rock. The tank cycled in less than a week. What we do is weekly 1.5 gallon water changes and we test parameters daily. The only thing we dose is every 4th day 2ml of Aquavitro Fuel.
